ABOUT

At B. W. Fleming Architect, residential architecture is our passion.  Our mission is to provide each client with a thoughtfully designed home that has a strong connection to its surroundings - a timeless retreat that enhances daily life while providing a backdrop for lasting memories. Whether designing a new house, or improving an existing one, we consider the natural beauty of its location and the vernacular and aesthetic traditions of the region. We strive to know our clients and understand how they live (or want to live) because we believe the client is what truly makes a home custom. We welcome collaboration and focus on serving our clients while guiding them through the complexities of the design and construction process.

Brent W. Fleming, AIA

Prior to establishing B.W. Fleming, Architect, Brent spent a decade working in two distinguished residential practices - Beau Clowney Architects and Cobb Architects - in Charleston, SC. Before shifting his focus to residential architecture, Fleming worked for LS3P in Charlotte, NC and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in New York City where he contributed to the design of major buildings around the world, including One World Trade Center and The Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India. Brent earned his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design from Clemson University and he received a Masters Degree in Architecture from Yale University. While at Yale, Brent studied under several prestigious practitioners including Robert Stern and Peter Eisenman.

Fleming was raised in the upstate of South Carolina where he learned that it takes more than great architecture to make a home. In addition to New York and Connecticut, he has been blessed to be able to spend a significant amount of time in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. These experiences contribute to his sense of what makes places unique and how architectural traditions and lifestyle are influenced by context. “A home designed with intention and depth should truly influence our emotional, physical, and mental well-being. It should intertwine us with our awe-inspiring surroundings and create a habitat for families to make memories and cohesively live their lives to the fullest.”
